Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to stop by to say hi and to thank you for taking such great care of me at the Humane Society for so long!

I was a little shy at first, not knowing what to expect in this new place, but after a day or two I knew I'd found my forever home! There are lots of windows I can watch the birds from, couches to curl up on, toys and a scratching post that I love to use!  And the best part is that my new family loves to give hugs as much as I do! We cuddle all the time!

Here are some pictures of me in my new home, and thank you all again so very much for all of the excellent care and love! My family will be back soon to bring a brother or sister home for me to play with!

Hi there.  We are sisters and we're named after where our dad works...yes, that's kind of weird but we are used to our names (Magic..that's me...the beautiful black and white) and my sister Spud. 

We are now one year old and we have grown a lot.  We are happy and still mischievous.  We thank all of you at the Humane Society for taking care of us until we were 8 weeks old, and thanks for finding us a great Dad.

Hello, this is Jenna, and last week I adopted Dunkin (now Duncan). I heard that he was one of the favourites of the shelter, so friends will be pleased to hear that Duncan is doing wonderful here with me! He was nervous at first but by the end of the night, he was on the couch beside me, watching TV. His favourite spot is under the couch, and so he has not yet discovered all of the sunspots available through the day, but I'm sure he will. He purrs all the time, and curls up beside me, or on me, and loves to steal the attention of my company. I live by myself, and have been without a cat for over 6 months. Duncan has brought back the proper atmosphere that my apartment was missing. I love him so much already, and
he was the purr-fect choice for me! Thank you so much for everything!

My name is Madison and I was adopted in August 2009. I just wanted to let everyone know how much I love my new home. I get to go visiting with my Mom wherever she goes because everyone loves me so much! I like to sleep ALL day and then run around the entire night chasing my toys. It's about time we let you know how Jada is doing after we adopted her in January. As you can see, she has adapted to her new home really well. She & her brother Jake love going for walks, swims, drives & play a lot together. Jada is learning to stay at home & is able to stay outside (with supervision) without a leash so she gets the exercise she needs & so does Jake. We thank her former owner for taking such good care of her before she came into our lives.

Hello, Gracie is doing great! She fell into our life style very easily and fast. She is full of energy and love! Gracie is a very smart girl and can already sit, shake paw and lay down... we are working on stay and roll over at the moment. She has brought much love and tunes of laughs into our home, what a blessing she is! :)

Hi Everyone,

It's me Sky!!  I was adopted in March/10.  I just wanted to let everyone at the shelter know that I am doing really really well with my new family.  I now have a human boy, human girl, Mom, Dad, and 3 cats for sisters!!.  But really I am the boss of the house and we all know that "Dogs Rule and Cats Drool!!"  But seriously don't tell them that, because there is 3 of them.  I have settled in really well with my new family.  I live in the country and go for long walks everyday, and most of them are off leash!!  How cool is that?!?  I love going on truck rides with my new family, and especially love going to the beach.  I don't like to get wet, but I love to bark at the waves, and chase the seagulls! I would like to thank everyone at the shelter for taking such great care of me as I waited for my forever family!!  I included some pictures of me enjoying my new life.

Hi,

I just wanted to say that Sky has adapted so well to our family.  It's like he always lived with us.  He is well mannered, content and gets along great with our 3 cats. ( All 3 were adopted from the shelter as well).  He loves the kids and is my baby.  Every evening we have to sit together in my chair!!  Thanks again for allowing us to adopt such a great boy.  We kept his name and added the blue to the end.

Hello! Just sending an update on Chai (formerly known as Onyx). It's now been one month since the adoption and Chai is doing fantastic. He loves to run around and play with anything he can find. He has a good appetite and has been growing a lot! After all that playing and eating, he loves to cuddle with one of us and watch a good movie. Thank you! Because of you, I found a best friend and he found a forever home.

I just wanted to let you know that Zelda, formerly Mya, is doing very well. She is enjoying the off leash time she gets a lot and her manners are improving. She is very intelligent and can get into just about anything but it's hard to stay angry at that face for too long. She loves to cuddle and play in the bathtub. She is getting along very well with her buddy Tessie the Boston Terrier. Tessie adores her new playmate. I've sent some photos along. Thanks so much for my new best friend!

Hi my name is Luca.  I was "Spice" at the Humane Society until my forever family adopted me in November 2009.  I have a little brother named Kobe.  The two of us have a lot of fun together and get into a fair bit of trouble too.  Like the time we spread a whole bag of grass seed over the TV room floor!  Oh well, my family love us to bits - who wouldn't?!?  Thanks to all the nice people at the Humane Society that looked after me until the Turner's fell in love with me and took me home.

Hi, we adopted Malcolm (left) in Jan 2009 and Tucker (right), formerly named Skipper, in April 2010. Just wanted to let you know that both of the boys are doing great! As soon as we saw Malcolm at the Humane Society, we knew he belonged with us. He was quite ill when we adopted him, but he has flourished in his new home. He carries on many conversations and is always ready to snuggle.

Tucker has settled in very quickly and really enjoys playing with toys and watching birds out the window. Sometimes he thinks he's part dog, as he often carries toys in his mouth. His carefree personality and daredevil stunts always make us laugh! Wherever Malcolm is, Tucker can't be far behind. After just a few weeks, they have become great buddies!

Hi, Here are some updated pics of barney who we adopted in Sept 09, he has brought us so much happiness since the death of our other dog Max. He is so funny and makes us laugh daily, I think we should have called him scruff as he never looks tidy even after brushing him. Barney has many friends who come around and play, Harley, Molly, Archie, Fin-bar, and of course Charlie. Many thanks to the Humane Society. xx

Hi there,

We just wanted to send you an update of Misty (Amanda). As of April 14th we have had Misty for a full year now and are COMPLETELY in love with her. Everyone thinks she is just the most beautiful dog in PEI. We actually get stopped on the street by people with remarks of how beautiful she is and asking what breed of dog she is, which we have narrowed down to, with help by multiple vets that she is N.S Duck Toller/ Golden Retriever. Gorgeous!

She is making great progress with obedience training and call back. She loves other dogs and often visits the dog park for a good run and greet.  Her energy level has decreased only mildly and remains VERY active. There is no doubt she has become very spoiled as you can tell with the picture of her very own pool, and probably gets away with more than she should, but we love her just the same. She has definitely become part of the family quickly and has been a great companion and we are very proud to be her adoptive parents.

We can't remember what Corrie's name was when we adopted her, but she was the Mt Mellick found dog in December 2009.

 

We adopted her just about the first week of December.

 

I'd say she landed on her four furry feet. Corrie is a very cute, entertaining animal and is really fitting in with the other two we have, Pepper and Rosie, both HS adoptions. We love them all.

Just wanted to let you know that St. Patrick ~ now known as Jacob ~ is doing great.  It didn't take too long for him to settle in.  He loves to sleep in the front of the bed, he steals my chair when I get up and he lays in front of the computer when I'm on it....like he is right now. We just wanted to thank you guys for everything you did for Jacob while he was at the Humane Society.  I am so happy I chose him and that he found his forever home.

Remember me? My new name is Jim S.A. Band, but I used to be called Chip. I'm loving my new home, and my big brother Joe. Turns out, three years ago Joe also used to live at the Humane Society in the kennel 3 doors down from where I was.  (I got my parents to send you a picture of him as well). He's the best!
 
I go to doggy daycare at my grandmother's during the week with my big brother Joe. Joe and grandma have taught me lots of things with the help of the clicker. I'm housetrained, can sit, give paw, and lay down. I listen really, really well to my parents, and am walking great on a leash. I went to the doctor the other day, and my eye infection is all cleared up now too! I did however find out that I get car sick, but I'm hoping I'll grow out of it so I can go on lots of car rides with my parents and Joe.
 
As you can see in my picture, I'm super happy. I love to smile--especially when mom and dad rub my belly for me!
 
Thank you for helping me find my forever home, and thanks also to the nice Vet Student who fostered me. She really gave me a big head start in clicker training.

Hi, 

 This is Franklin and Gus formally known as Char (grey cat) and Teddy (black cat) when they were at the Human Society. Originally, I had only wanted Franklin, but when I met Gus for the first time, I knew I had to have both cats. I've had Franklin and Gus for about eight months and I couldn't be happier. Even though, Franklin is very laid back and reserved, and Gus is a little active at times and is very vocal with what he wants, they get a long great together and sleep together every night. Both cats just turned one year old in the past month or so and are growing up fast. Gus is always looking to be picked up and hugged, and Franklin is always waiting to get petted or go for a drive in the car. Franklin's favorite pastime is eating cheesies with myself and my boyfriend while Gus enjoys chasing after the laser pointers and chasing the birds outside. Both cats have made me so happy and have brought such a warmth to my heart.

This is Preston, formerly known as "Gizmo".  I was adopted in October 2009 by my new owner and I am currently residing in North Winsloe. What can I say, I am really living the life these days. I have my own bachelor pad in the ceiling above the family room, so when I feel like getting away from all the action I have my own space. I love lazing around, lurking Sasha Doiron-McGrath's facebook, watching the birds, and sleeping. I also have a new found love of modelling. I am so happy at my new home. In the words of Mr. Kanye West, welcome to the good life. Thank you PEI Humane Society for taking me in and finding me a new home!

Hello, I just wanted to thank PEI's Humane Society for our wonderful addition to our family. Phoenix (Orange) formerly known as Ruby, and Onyx (Grey).

They love playing with their toys, their favourite toy is a mouse that moves. they love chasing their tail which is typically something a dog would do but my two cats must think they are dogs from time to time!

They also love running all over the house going from window to window, specially if there are birds around!

I just thought i would send you a few pictures because this was a very happy adoption :)

Hi there, I just wanted to send in a quick update on my two little adoptees and thank the PEI Humane Society once again for their help and support. Annie and Darwin (along with their two sisters) were found outside the small animal hospital at the Atlantic Veterinary College where I am a student and was fortunate enough to be around when they were brought in. I decided to foster them and then subsequently adopted them both in November of 2009. They are doing fantastic, and as you can see from the picture they love to cuddle with each other as well as me (and anyone else who comes to visit). They are also very playful, and are growing super fast! Thanks again for making this adoption possible.

I wanted to write and let you know how thrilled we are with our newly adopted cat, Misty. She has been living with us for about two months and fits in like an old shoe. She is cuddly, affectionate, and sweet. She follows us all over the house, chatting away with an impressive variety of meows, trills and brrrs. Misty is also, of course, brilliant! She fetches toy mice better than any dog and practically levitates from one piece of furniture to the other. She is perfect with the kids and makes friends with everyone who comes to visit.
 
The best part of this story is that Misty was a Fancy Feline and had spent over six months at the PEIHS. As my kids say, she's an awesome cat! I'm attaching a photo of her, looking very relaxed in her new home.

Hi all,

This is Roxy, I am the black and tan one (German Shepherd/Border Collie Mix) formerly known as Jody. I was adopted about a year and half ago as a puppy from the PEIHS. I have adjusted and grown well in my forever home. I have learned to sit, come, stay, lie down, crawl, speak, shake paw, high five, hugs, and dance. Since I have arrived my animal family
has gradually grown. When I was almost a year old my mom (Amanda) and dad (Ben) moved into a nice Home in the country on an old Farm-lot with lots and lots of land for me to run around and play. They also adopted my sister Shayla (a 3 year old Norwegian Elk hound from an older lady who could no longer look after her) and a couple months after that a 6
month old kitten named Leroy (who was found as a stray by a friend in Charlottetown). We all get along great, we love to play together and sleep together (As you can see in the picture I sent of my family). I love to play with anyone who will. I really enjoy it when my animal cousins come to visit on the weekend (Astria-10 month old Boxer, and Snowy- 5yr old Lab/German Shepherd mix). I really love it here and thank you so much for allowing my family to adopt me!

Hi, just wanted to let you know that Luckie formerly known as Ollie has totally adjusted to his new life here in Strathcona. He is a lovable dog who sticks to us no matter where we go and what we do. He fits in really well with his older brother Chewie who loves as well as tolerates him during their two hour play fights. They even share the throne (loveseat) which was greatly unexpected! I am sure that next 10 years or so will be quite interesting for us as well as him.

Hi Everyone,
                Here is a picture of Candy. She has fit into our home so well. It took her about 24hrs to blend in but now it feels as though she has been here forever. Candy is great company for her big sister Tazer. She makes us smile and laugh a lot. What a character!!  Thank you to the Humane Society and to Susan and Jeff  who went out of their way to make this happen. Also a big thank you to my son Dale and Nikki  who found Candy for us. I am so proud of them for volunteering there. Thanks everyone.

Just wanted to write a little note about Priscilla and AJ - Thought you may want to add it to you Happy Adoption page to let others know what great animals are available for adoption!   They are incredibly good cats and we adore them already!

It's been less then a week since we adopted Priscilla and her personality is now starting to peek through..  She's a lovely affectionate cat and basically just a little beauty queen.  When we took home Priscilla she was a little timid and shy and hid under the bed for about one day.  Not only did she have to adapt to the new humans and a new home, but also a new brother that we decided to adopt along with her.  His name is A.J. and I'll send a separate little update on him.   Priscilla is a very dainty little girl and I'm sure her larger then life brother can be a little intimidating.  But she has  started to come around and realize this was a pretty good gig.. there's tons of petting when she's in the mood for it and she finally discovered her little bed and toys.  She even lets A.J. sleep with her on the bed.  After 5 days with us,  she's happily coming to see me when I come home from work and she even lets me pet her and brush her in the evenings.  She loves her new collar with the bell and she thinks it looks lovely on her.  She's really a little sweetie and we are so glad we took her home.

The day I went into the Humane Society to meet Priscilla, I was walking by the kennels and this big white paw tapped me on the shoulder and I looked back and saw this tabby and white cat looking right at me.. He was almost saying, "hello,  I'm here, come meet me too".  This was A.J.  !!  I asked the girl working if I could hold him and when I did, he just laid against me like a baby.  He was so relaxed and just a cuddly cat.  He wrapped his paws around me and I was kind of sad when I put him back in the kennel.  I told the girls there that I would go back to work and think about my adoption choices.  I liked Priscilla and knew I would adopt her, but I couldn't stop thinking of this big lug of a cat (who I realized after is only 9-months old), so when I called I said I would adopt the two cats. On the day we took them home, Priscilla was a little shy and hid under the bed for a while.  But A.J.  no way, he was a people person from the moment he got there.  This picture was taken the first night home! What a character he is.. He is extremely lovable, almost unbelievably so.  We constantly laugh at his antics, as it seems he is just trying to entertain us with his silly expressions and actions. He is curious and playful and follows us around like a little puppy.  I am so happy we adopted both these beautiful little cats.

This is Sasha Doiron-McGrath, formerly known as "Sushi". I'm a blue point Siamese cat who is getting along swimmingly in my new home with my Mom, Dad and sister Missy. I was adopted on Dec.15 2009, from then I was taken to my lovely new home in Downtown Charlottetown. Missy and I play together all day long (I'm usually the initiator) or you can find me sleeping on my favourite warm heater.  I'm a lot bigger than I was when I was at the Humane Society but that's just because the food here is amazing. I love my new family and my new home! I'm so happy! Thanks so much to the Humane Society for putting up with me while I was there! Love and miss you all!

I left the shelter in November 2009 as Cookie, and I am now Herriot, after the famous James Herriot.  I spend my days beating up my big sisters, chasing my toys, getting in trouble, and attacking Mom's feet under the covers. I am loving life and now I am off to play!

I just wanted to write and let you know how well our kitties are doing. Formally JD (black and white) is now "Cricket" and Cola( orange) now Patton. They took about 1 hour to warm up to everything and feel at home. Cricket and Patton both are very much water cats, even though they have very different personalities. They love to play in it, and frequently play in the tub, water or no water. They get along Great!, and get along Great with us. They wait by the door when they hear us come home, waiting for hugs, and loving. Both are also talkers. If I speak to them, they talk back. We took they home to Cape Breton at Christmas break, and loved it there also, even the dog. These guys are spoiled rotten,..toys...toys...and more toys, and a cat tree, and tunnels....

I am happy I decided to adopt, and they worked out great, we love them and thank you.

I am just writing a note to give you an update on Foxy, the kitten I adopted on Jan 20th.  Foxy is doing great. She seems to be over her cold and loving her new home.  She is fitting in with her new 'friends', although they are quick to let her know when she is getting too frisky! Tomorrow Foxy will have a check up and her boosters at the Summerside Animal Hospital.  Thank you for the opportunity to adopt an amazing kitten; the work you guys do is wonderful!

I just wanted to send you some pictures of me and my new family. My Mom (Cindy), Dad (Jim) my new brother ( Oscar) and Godfather (Terry) have welcomed me into their home and made me part of their lives and we had a wonderful first Christmas. I love playing with Oscar and I have sent some pictures of him and I so you can see how much we look alike. I wanted to thank you for taking such good care of me when I lived with all of you. On behalf of me and my new family........thank-you for keeping me until my Dad came and got me. This is Bear, his name was Bruce and we got him in October.  He adapted well to the cats and our home.  He is a great dog and couldn't have picked any better.  He loves to play outside, go for walks and drives, and taking over our bed.

Hi, We adopted Briggs the first of January. He had spent a month at the Humane Society and when we met him, we couldn't leave him there any longer. It took him a while to adjust to his new home. As you can see, he is starting to settle in well. He is very timid at times and doesn't really like to be cuddled. He just likes to sit and look pretty. Thank you to all the nice people at the shelter. We are enjoying him so far!

We adopted "Prima" in October and she instantly became a loving member of our family. She is a beagle, terrier mix but we're not so sure about that now that she's gotten much bigger. Our daughters adore her and she adores them. When the time comes for them to come home from school she's already learned to sit by the door waiting for them to come home. Then when they do get home, they are instantly covered in kisses and so is she. She loves everyone who comes into our house and has made fast friends. I am so grateful we waited to adopt a dog because then we wouldn't have gotten Prima. She is the PERFECT dog. Thank you to whoever dropped her Mom off at the humane society because now all the puppies must have loving homes and if those other puppies are half as loved and adored as Prima is they will be happy dogs.

Just wanted to pass along another 'Thanks!' to the PEI Humane Society. We adopted our second dog from them recently and our family is now complete. Our children loved watching the PEIHS website, seeing which dogs were coming and going and waiting patiently (remarkably) for a dog that 'fit' our family. Misty (formerly Cinderella) is a high energy, spirited two month old pug/beagle mix who has become fast friends with our now almost 7mth old Border Collie mix Boss. They are already inseparable from sun up to sun down and Boss is teaching his young pack mate all that he knows (which at this time is to sit for treats, where to pee and how to play. Thanks again to everyone at the Humane Society.

We have just celebrated our 'dogiversary' with Bones - the year has flown by since we got him! Julia (in photo with Bones this past Christmas) decided that we would keep his name that we adopted him with.
He settled in with us very well. Bones is smart and easy to train. He loves being part of our family and we are thrilled to have him with us. We live near the beach so spend a lot of time there with him. He loves running along the beach and playing fetch. Bones loves to cuddle and is very social. Thanks for taking such good care of him while he was with you.

My family and I adopted 'Bugsy' now Juliet in 2009. She was timid and crazy at first but she quickly settled in. She enjoys bothering our old 17 year old cat, Tigger but since she's been home, Tigger's been a little more lively! We have two dogs as well and Juliet ignores them most of the time but there's no such luck with our poor little rabbit, Blueberry. Juliet likes to climb on top of the rabbit cage just to say 'Hello' to Blueberry and every so often she likes to reach inside of the cage 'pet' him. Its been great fun having Juliet in the house and we look forward to many more years spent with her!

Hello, you may remember me as Hailey.  I was only with you for a short while before being adopted.  My new home is great, and my new name is Eve.  My brother, Smokey, met with two other humane society kittens before he finally (and thankfully) chose me. It was a long search for my forever home, but I feel as if I was well worth it!

I came home in the afternoon  and my brother was cautious but curious about me, as to be expected, but he wouldn't let me out of his sight! After only about 36 hours, we were best friends and love to cuddle up where ever we please together.  It was mine as well as Smokey's (who was adopted from the Summerside Animal Hospital after being badly burned in a barn fire and cared for by the generous staff in Summerside) first Christmas with our new home but it feels like we've been together forever!  We both got tons of new toys, balls, and a new scratching post!

We were definitely meant to be, and we are all so happy together.  I love watching the crows out the window, and I've even climbed the curtain a time or two!  I like to get into everything, and occasionally wind up in some unusual situations!  I am so glad to found the perfect forever home!

Hi, we just wanted to send some pictures and give you an update on Willow. We adopted Willow from the PEI Humane Society on December 19th 2009. Willow was scared and nervous at first but we notice changes in her every day and she is really starting to feel like she is  home. She has become fast friends with our other dogs....especially our other beagle - they romp and play together all the time.
 
She is a sweet sweet dog and has won her way into all of our hearts. She loves going for walks and will do almost anything for a Timbit!!! Willow has been a gift to our family and we want to thank you for bringing her into our lives!! We have attached some photos of Willow with her new siblings!!

Greetings to all the nice folk at the shelter from Bounce I was the 12th stray of Christmas for 2008 and no one had chosen me for the longest time. Then, in January 2009, along came the POWELLS who took me home. I have been with them for a full year now and you can see by the photo there is no one higher in this house.

Granddaughter, Kaelynn picked me out and I am her cat but staying at the POWELLS since Kaelynn cannot have a cat in her house. She phones frequently and I meow my satisfaction to her. She is coming to visit me soon. Meanwhile, I have Bounce., Laddie, and Badger to entertain me and the POWELLS to look after all my other needs. Thanks to all the nice folk at the Shelter and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I've been inspired by your "Happy Adoption" page to send you all an update on "Jerry" (now Declan) who was adopted  nearly 2 years ago.  As you can see in the pictures, he (and his brother Seamus) are living the good life here in New Brunswick! Declan is approaching 20lbs, is nearly 2 feet long....and even has his own chair at the table. I hadn't even seen Declan when I went looking for a cat, until he reached out and grabbed me on my way by-- and it was love at first sight!

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that eve is doing great. Our children were very excited when they came home from school that day as we kept Eve's arrival a secret.  Eve and our cat Oreo (who was found in the garbage truck) have adjusted very well with each other and seem to choose to ignore each other most of the time.  Eve likes to play in the snow and go for rides with Dad in the truck. I am sending along some of the Christmas pictures we tried to take of the both of them.  Oreo of course is used to it so he just posed but Eve was a challenge.  Hope you like them.  Thank you very much for Eve we love her so much.

Happy Adoption Eve

Woof!

My name is Maddie, but you might remember me as Maggie.  I was adopted by my Forever Mom, Wendy, on September 12, 2009 and we’re doing great here in Massachusetts!  She says I’m a little too energetic sometimes, but I’m trying to calm down, I promise…  I keep reminding Mom that I’m still learning.  After all, I am a black lab and I just turned 2 on November 23rd.  I think I heard that black labs are in the “puppy stage” until age 3 or 4, so I have some time before I have to settle down.  Besides, I spent so much time in the shelter that sometimes I forget that inside the house, I have to use my “Indoor Manners”.  The good news is that I haven’t had one “accident” in the house, not one!  And I haven’t chewed up anything, either!

I do get a bit too rambunctious sometimes and Mom gets mad at me, but I know it’s because she loves me and doesn’t want me to get hurt.  An example of this is the day she yelled at me really, really loud!!!  I didn’t realize that the 5 foot fence I was trying to jump over at a friend’s house was way too close to a busy street and I really scared Mom.  She didn’t think I could jump over the fence, but I used to practice all the time at the shelter and I got really good at it!  I would have made it over that fence, but Mom scared me when she yelled and I stopped in mid-jump and landed inside the fenced area!  I guess that’s why I’m never allowed off my leash anymore…ever… even in a fenced yard… We take a rope to the beach and the park and I can run out about 40 feet on that, but that’s it.  Mom said she loves me too much to let me get into any more trouble and I’m glad about that.

Mom’s best friend is Jill and she travelled all the way to PEI with Mom to adopt me.  Jill has lots of little dogs called Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.  Most of them are ok, but some of her rescued foster dogs bark at me and I don’t like that, so I try to ignore them.  I still don’t like cats...actually I hate cats!   Our next door neighbor has 2 of them and I practically pull Mom off the steps every time I see them in the yard.  I know Mom wanted to get a cat someday, but not while I’m around…I’ll make sure of that!  I waited a long time for my forever home and I’m not willing to share it….at least not right now…

I hear Mom coming to feed me my supper, so I’ll end now.  I hope all of you nice people and the furry friends I left behind are doing well.  I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and a wonderful holiday season.  I hope all of your wishes and dreams come true like mine did!

Dear Friends at the PEI Humane Society,
 
It's me again, your old buddy Maud.  Some of you may not remember me.  I was the scruffy kitty who spent a long, long time in a cage in the corner of the cat room.  It got to be a bit tiresome after a while, so my friend Kelly and I cooked up a plan.  Kelly would convince some sap... er, I mean nice lady... to just hold me for a minute.  The lady said she didn't want a long-haired cat. but I got to work on her!  I pretended to be a love-bunny, the kind of cat who likes nothing more than to be patted and who loves to be affectionate.
 
And it worked.  The lady took me to my new palace... er, I mean home... and I now spend happy days ignoring her completely. Well, unless I want something of course. THEN she hears about it.
 
I have now trained both female and male staff to do my bidding at all times.  Male staff gets up every morning at 6:00 am because I simply cannot tolerate a bowl of food that hasn't been touched.  Then female staff gets up a little later and we play a little game I like called "Let Me In, Let Me Out."  They seem to think this is funny.  I think it's serious business and I work hard each and every day to make sure they know their place.
 
Now sometimes I do give in and allow them to pat me.  And, if I'm in the mood, I might even sit on their laps and purr a little bit.  I mean, you can't expect staff to work for no reward, can you?
 
My current favourite thing is to watch what staff calls "Maud TV".  I sit on the back of the couch where I can see out the window and am happily entertained by a program called "The Crow Show".  It's very exciting.  Have you ever seen it?  Even though that cage was not the best place for me, I am very glad you let me live there such a long time. Because now, really, I have the best life ever.

Hi!  Everyone
I'm getting along really well at my new home.  The first thing my masters did was to change my name to Mona.  Apparently all their animals names start with "M".  The other cats name is Monday and the dog's name is Metu.  They are really nice to me.  Monday wants me to make sure I know he is still the boss and Metu is so cute.  She's smaller than me.  At night I  find it very quiet.  I decided to find the Halloween treat bags.  They have little chip bags that I like to try an open.  I woke some of my masters up.  I think they really liked that because they came and said something to me.  I'm not sure what they said but I'm sure it was good. The woman master was really happy when I was helping her pick jewellery out of her jewellery box.  I don't know if she wore the stuff I flung on to the floor but she looked nice anyway.  I really like my litter box.  It seemed a shame that the litter was all in the box so I figured I'd kick half of it out on to the floor.  I thought that looked much better.  When my master was on her hands and knees cleaning it I thought I'd help by standing on her back.  She must of really liked that because she called the others to come and look. Well that's all for now.  I'll keep in touch.

Our Happy Adoption story;
 

My husband were married in 2005 and we both wanted a dog but knew we should wait till we had our own home with a good size yard. I brought 3 cats with me to our marriage. Sadly 2 of them have since passed away though they had lived long happy lives. In December 2008 we felt we were ready to add a dog to our family. On the 16th of that month we adopted Bo, a 2 year old, boxer/staffordshire bull terrier mix. He has been a joy in our home. He's very active, lovable and fun. Just a few months later we decided to adopt a cat as well and on March 5 of this year we adopted Caroline who we now call Angie, a 5 month old, who is a sweetie and very smart! Bo and Angie have become fast friends and people are surprised at how well they play together. We can't imagine our home without them.

We've been busy with agility classes, going for long walks, making visits to the Charlottetown dog park and going on hikes. I'm very glad that I adopted her! Thanks again for everything!

I just wanted to send along some new pictures of the kitties that we adopted in May. They are both so much at home with us. Callie (Trixie) has adjusted very well. She can be quite social at times. She loves spending time on the deck soaking up the sun. Oliver likes to play with the water in the bathroom sink, he likes outside as long as it isn't windy. They are never too far apart from each other, they are so sweet!

We are very happy to say that Mamadu is doing great! Our dog, Studel, who we adopted in January from the PEI Humane Society has found a new friend! Mamadu is very affectionate and is definitely a dog and people cat. We wanted a cat who would get along great with a dog, and Mamadu is it!

RIVER -- Happy Adoption

 
Of the things that we promised each other with our move to PEI, from downtown Toronto, was the opportunity to finally adopt a dog.  In the long drive East, every dog we passed elicited a response and a discussion about what kind of dog we wanted to adopt.  At my desk in Toronto in June, I recalled visiting the Charlottetown Humane Society web page in our discussions and that we should really think about getting a dog that was not easily adoptable. I recalled seeing River on the pages and even watching some video of her in action.  The day came that we agreed we could go in and at least register our interest in adopting a dog.  We were invited to go back and take a look.  We visited with two dogs that day - and it was River who immediately stole our hearts.  She was gorgeous, curious and full of personality.  We knew that there would be challenges particularly with some other dogs, but we agreed we had the capacity to deal.  We have passed our one month anniversary with River, and she with us and her personality is really shining through, her comfort and willingness to pay attention grows with each day.  We are in love with our dog, and we think she is with us as well.  Thank you to all at the Humane Society - and to all of the dog park participants who weather River's barking on one side of the fence as we continue to work on her socialisation with dogs of all sizes.  Su, Graham and River

Thought I would send you a picture of our dog Jake (his adoption name was Morrison). We got Jake back the end of April. He looked like he was going to be a brute of a dog as he was so thick. He had since grown a lot and has slimmed out looking a lot like a lab. He is a wonderful family pet. Hi There, Just wanted to send you a quick update on our newest edition to the family. We adopted Zoe (now known as Harmony) from you and she has been home so far less than a week. We decided to change her name to Harmony, as we feel that she tries so hard to blend in with our home! Everybody who has seen her thinks she is so adorable, and I have to agree!
