Horse Racing 

1.    The P.E.I. Humane Society recognizes that Standard bred horse racing is an important industry, and is a long and honoured tradition in Prince Edward Island.  P.E.I.H.S. further recognizes that most owners, breeders and drivers have the utmost respect and concern for the welfare of their horses. 

2.    The P.E.I. Humane Society is opposed to the following: 

a). the use of training methods that cause distress or suffering; 

b). the use of drugs administered with a view to altering the performance of a horse; 

c). any races where unreasonable or excessive demands upon the horse cause distress or suffering, e.g. immature or unfit animal;  

d). excessive use of the whip or cane.
