Volunteer Pet Biography Writer
Summary
The Volunteer Pet Biography Writer plays an important role creating clear, creative and compelling
written biographies of adoptable animals at the Shelter. These biographies are essential tools in distinguishing and promoting individual animals
to potential adopters on animal kennels, the PEIHS website and at public appearances.
Essential Duties
-
Obtain animal background information through Society records, information supplied by former owners and Shelter staff

Spend time with individual animals to discover new information
-
Write individual biographies for each animal, using a standardized template, which will be provided

Provide written biographies to Shelter Manager for review and approval
Additional Tasks
When time and talents allow, the Volunteer Pet Biography Writer will be welcome to submit other
written documents (articles, posters, brochures) to assist the Development Coordinator with special projects or events.
Schedule
The Volunteer Pet Biography Writer works on their own schedule but may only visit with Shelter
animals when staff members are present in the building.
Qualifications
-
min. 16 years of age
-
excellent writing skills
-
strong computer skills (electronic databases, word processing)
-
comfortable independently handling a variety of dogs and cats in a kennel environment
-
comfortable working in a sometimes loud, often busy environment
-
own computer and workspace outside of the Shelter with access to Internet and email (preferred but not essential)
-
ability to work as a team member and independently
-
good communicator – with people and pets
Training
Before participating as a Volunteer Cat Care Assistant, all individuals are required to:

submit a completed Volunteer Application

attend a Volunteer Orientation session at the PEI Humane Society

provide a Criminal Record Check
