Volunteer Cat Care Assistant
 

Summary 

The Volunteer Cat Care Assistant plays an important role assisting the Society’s full-time Shelter Attendants with various tasks related to the day-to-day care of the cats in its care.  This additional assistance allows for a greater level of care, including increased exercise and enrichment opportunities.
 

Essential Duties 

-          Socialize with cats and kittens of all ages, sizes and breeds

-          Assist with basic grooming

-          Dispense fresh food and clean water

-          Wash and disinfect food dishes and/or litter boxes

-          General housekeeping/cleaning of animal areas

-          Assist with animal care laundry
 

Additional Tasks 

When time and talents allow, Volunteer Cat Care Assistants are invited to help with the following additional cat care tasks: 

-          Cat enrichment through play and individual positive-behaviour exercises and training
 

Schedule 

Volunteer Dog Care Assistants are needed each and every day (7 days per week, 365 days per year) for the smooth operation of the Shelter. 

The most essential Volunteer Cat Care Assistant shift is from approximately 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon

However, Volunteer Cat Care Assistants may also be scheduled at other times throughout the day. Please contact the PEI Humane Society Volunteer Coordinator for more information.
 

Qualifications 

-          min. 16 years of age

-          comfortable handling a variety of cats

-          comfortable working in a sometimes loud, often busy environment

-          ability to work as a team member and independently

-          good communicator – with people and pets
 

Training 

Before participating as a Volunteer Cat Care Assistant, all individuals are required to:

-          submit a completed Volunteer Application

-          attend a Volunteer Orientation session at the PEI Humane Society

-          provide a Criminal Record Check
