Volunteer Special Event or Admin Assistant

 

Summary 

The Volunteer Special Event or Admin Assistant plays an important role providing community outreach, public relations, or administrative assistance in the promotion of the PEI Humane Society.

 

Essential Duties 

Working under the direction of the Development Coordinator, or other designated PEIHS staff member, this position may assist with:

-          Creation or distribution of public education and/or publicity materials

-          Providing public education of PEIHS programs and services at public events

-          Assisting with set-up or tear-down of PEIHS educational materials

-          Assisting with portable displays of adoptable animals from the Shelter at public events

-          Assisting with the creation and processing of administrative tasks such as donor receipts
 

Schedule 

The Volunteer Special Events or Admin Assistant is available on a semi-regular basis, as needed according to the schedule of special events or the current needs of the Society.  Duties might involve tasks at the Shelter, at home or at public events.


Qualifications
 

-          No minimum age requirement but must have own reliable transportation to the Shelter and to special events

-          computer skills (word processing, graphic or digital photo software)

-          Graphic, creative or writing skills

-          background or experience in education, community groups or public education

-          comfortable meeting the public and acting as an ambassador for the Society

-          comfortable with basic cash transactions and/or completing basic information forms with members of the public

-          own computer and workspace outside of the Shelter with access to Internet and email (preferred but not essential)

-          ability to work both as a team member and independently

-          good communicator – with people and pets

 

Training 

-          Completion of Volunteer Application and clear Criminal Record check

-          no formal training necessary but willing to become familiar with PEIHS history, policies and procedures
