Animal Protection and the PEI Humane Society are pleased to share the following statistics from the 2023-24 fiscal year:
In this two-page selection, compiled as part of the PEI Humane Society’s 2023-24 Annual Report (click here to see the report in full), the PEI Humane Society detail figures related to several important areas of interest: Humane Cases, Dog Act Cases, Bylaw Cases, and Closed Cases.
Important Definitions:
- Humane Cases refer to any case where Animal Protection Officers were investigating the welfare of a companion animal
- Dog Act Cases refer to cases which pertain to the PEI Dog Act
- Bylaw Cases refer to cases which involve bylaw infractions in municipalities where Animal Protection is contracted to enforce such issues
- Closed Cases are cases which have been completed. These cases can sometimes span multiple years, so the ratio of opened to closed cases will never be 1:1.
