Animal Welfare in the Community
Group Education Sessions
Our team of passionate animal welfare communicators love to share their knowledge about animal welfare and proper animal care. Whether learning remotely, in-person, or building curriculum, we’re happy to help.
Leash Your Best Friend
Leash laws vary from one municipality to another, so it’s essential to familiarize yourself with the specific regulations in your area. These laws are designed to protect both dogs and people by preventing potential accidents, injuries, and conflicts with other pets and wildlife.
Pet Pantry
Thanks to our supportive community and our incredible partners across the Island, we are able to donate several hundreds of pounds of free animal food to pets in need each year.
Cats in your Community
Many people wonder what to do when they see a cat outside that they don’t recognize. Deciding what to do about a found or unfamiliar cat can be challenging. Should you take the cat to the local shelter immediately? Should you advertise to see if it has a family? Should you bring it inside? Keep it? Rehome it yourself?
You Found a Kitten! Now, what?
Yes, the PEI Humane Society are accepting kitten intakes of all ages. We understand that when you find a kitten (or litter of kittens) it can be very exciting! But we caution you to call us before approaching and be sure to follow several steps prior to touching the kitten(s).
Foster-To-Adopt Program
Part of running the Island’s only animal shelter is managing space effectively. Once of the ways we do that is through our “Foster to Adopt” program.
Facilitated Adoptions
Are you in-need of surrendering your pet, but nervous about placing your pet in the shelter? Consider Facilitated Adoption! Keep your animal at home with you while they’re up for adoption via our website.

Palliative Care Foster Program
Sometimes elderly animals with known illnesses are tough to find new homes for. That’s why we launched our Palliative Care Foster Program, which finds homes for these animals within our network of trusted foster volunteers.
