PEI Humane Society Warns About Impersonation of Animal Protection Officers
Animal Protection Officers at the PEI Humane Society have received reports that there may be
individuals impersonating Officers across PEI. Those accused of impersonating Animal Protection
Officers are allegedly doing so in plain clothes and using unmarked vehicles.
The PEI Humane Society wishes to let the public know that no Animal Protection Officer will address
animal welfare concerns in plain clothes. Concerns are always addressed by a uniformed officer who will
be driving a marked vehicle.
“It’s really disappointing,” says Ashley Travis, development & communications coordinator for the PEI
Humane Society. “Animal Protection is the backbone of our work at the PEI Humane Society. This kind of
misrepresentation hurts everyone and makes our officers’ jobs much more difficult to do.”
Images of the official uniform and marked Animal Protection vehicles can be found on the PEI Humane
Society’s website and on their social media accounts. If you have been contacted by someone you
believe was mis-representing themselves as an Animal Protection Officer, you may verify their
employment with the PEI Humane Society by emailing info@peihumanesociety.com or calling 902-892-
1190.
