Pet Care

NEW: Pet Pantry Program

The PEI Humane Society has launched a pet pantry program to help Islanders keep their pets well fed.

The program provides bags of pet food to those who need them from either the shelter, or from various partners across PEI. The food comes from donations made to the shelter and is available when possible at the shelter and at various community fridge locations across the province.

“We often receive donations of food and treats,” says Ashley Travis, development and communications coordinator for the shelter. “We have always told our donors that anything we cannot use will be redistributed into the community. We continue to work with partner organizations to make that happen.”

One of the reasons cited for pet surrender at the PEI Humane Society is expenses related to pet ownership. We hope this program will allow more Islanders to keep their pets amidst the rising cost of pet care.

For anyone who wishes to donate to the Pet Pantry program, they can drop off donations of food or funds at the PEI Humane Society anytime using the outdoor donation bin outside the shelter or by dropping in during operating hours.
