PEI Humane Society to pause construction of new animal shelter
The PEI Humane Society has had to make the difficult decision to pause construction on its new animal shelter due to significant unforeseen cost increases.
“This decision is made after careful consideration from our board of directors and the shelter’s management team,” says Ashley Travis, development & communications coordinator. “The project will be put on hold until funding is secured.”
With inflation and a shortage of skilled tradespeople causing prices to soar, the budget for the project has inflated beyond expected increases and the shelter is making the decision to pause construction so that the project’s costs do not impact any of its other operations.
“The last thing we want is to put any of our community services at risk,” says Travis. “So we’re pausing for now to ensure we’re able to keep operating as usual. This pause will not impact shelter operations.”
