PEI Humane Society launches annual fundraising campaign by demonstrating how donors contribute to animal welfare on PEI
October 29, 2021

This November, Islanders can expect to see pink donation slips showing up in their mailboxes from the PEI Humane Society. These mailers show up every November but this year, the non-profit organization’s annual fundraiser is taking on a new theme centered on donor contributions and their impact on the shelter.

“Our donors make our work possible,” says Ashley Travis, Development and Communications Coordinator for the PEI Humane Society. “We wanted Islanders to see how their donations are making an impact on our shelter. After all, we wouldn’t be here without them.”
This year’s fundraiser centers around how donations made to the Humane Society directly impact the Island community and the programs run by the non-profit.

Two animals are being featured in this year’s campaign, Malai, a dog who arrived at the shelter in the spring of this year, fearful and reactive. Malai overcame past trauma with the help of the PEI Humane Society’s team partnering with the Atlantic Veterinary College’s Clicker Trainer and Behaviourist programs. With careful work and patience from a dedicated team, Malai was able to overcome her trauma and be adopted this summer into a loving family.

Pisces the cat is also being featured in this year’s campaign. Pisces was found on a local construction site with her head caught in an old fish bin. Workers called the PEI Humane Society’s Animal Protection Officers to assist with rescue and getting her to safety. Pisces was able to recover in foster care and was adopted earlier this year.

Programs and services offered by the PEI Humane Society have been drastically impacted in 2021. The number of kitten intakes has surpassed expected numbers and the society is anticipating close to 1500 animal intakes by the end of 2021 – more than any year in memory.
