How to keep your pet safe during this week’s eclipse
It’s important to remember that our pets do not know what’s going on during an eclipse. Therefore, if they’re prone to sit your windows, watching birds and passers-by, it’s possible they could be impacted by the solar eclipse coming on April 8th.
Here are some quick tips to ensure your pets are not frightened or stressed out during the upcoming solar eclipse:
- Close blinds and curtains to ensure the sudden light changes don’t shock your pets.
- Move cat trees and couches out of windows where possible until after the eclipse. This will ensure your cats won’t look at the sun accidentally during the high-point of the eclipse.
- If you’re attending a “watch event” outdoors, leave your pets at home with the above-mentioned practices in place.
It’s all about making our pets feel comfortable and safe. We know that we’re all excited about this once-in-a-lifetime event but if you’re attending a public event, consider leaving your pets at home. Busy social environments with excited anxious people can be stressful for our pets and can cause unpredictable behaviour.
