You Found a Kitten! Now, what?

So you found a kitten and don’t know what to do? We’re here to help!

If the kitten is critically injured or sick, call the PEI Humane Society immediately. If we’re closed, we have an emergency phone line available 24hrs a day, 365 days a year and we can be reached there.

Yes, we are accepting kitten intakes of all ages.
We ask that you call ahead to make sure we’re prepared with a place for the kittens when you arrive.

What to do when you find a kitten outside:

First, you should see if the kitten’s mother is nearby. Don’t kit-nap!

If the mother is nearby, she will come back for her kitten soon. Leave the kitten where it is and wait for the mother. Watch where the mother takes the kitten when she returns. After all, if you see one kitten, there are probably more.

When you call the shelter, be sure to have as much information as possible. Is the mother cat present? How many kittens are there? Use the flowchart below to assess how old the kittens are and provide the information when you call.

We are happy to help you with your questions this Kitten Season! Please give us a call when you find a kitten and we can direct you on what to do next.
